Surroundings
Via del Mulino is in the centre of San Vito lo Capo, within easy reach of everything the town has to offer. The nearest supermarket is a two-minute walk away, and the beach is about five minutes on foot. In summer the town buzzes with restaurants, bars and the famous Cous Cous Fest, but even outside the peak season it retains a relaxed, year-round life that makes it a viable place to live as well as to visit.
Monte Monaco, which rises directly behind the town and beach, is a rewarding hike with views from the summit that take in the whole of north-western Sicily, from Palermo in the east to the Egadi Islands to the west.
The Riserva Naturale dello Zingaro, one of Sicily’s most spectacular nature reserves, is about five kilometres to the south, on the eastern side of the peninsula. Beyond this is Castellammare del Golfo, with its dramatic harbour and thriving restaurant scene. A little further afield, the ancient temple, open-air theatre and natural hot springs at Segesta.
On the western side of the headland, the road takes you through through Macari and its beautiful bays, Cornino in the shadow of Monte Cofano and Bonagia, with its famous old tuna fishery, before bringing you to Trapani, the eponymous capital of the western Sicilian province.
Overlooking Trapani is the medieval hilltop town of Erice, a world apart from the golden coastline: Norman cobbled alleyways, ancient churches and sensational views transport you back in time through the incredible history of one of Sicily's oldest settlements. Trapani is the primary port for ferry connections to the Egadi Islands, a trio of unspoilt gems which are enjoying a surge of international interest since Christopher Nolan chose Favignana as a key filming location for his 2026 blockbuster The Odyssey. Trapani-Birgi airport is just over an hour away, as is Palermo’s recently expanded Falcone-Borsellino. Between them you will have no difficulty finding regular connections to all major European hubs and even, in high season, the east coast of the USA.
