Overlooking Trapani is the medieval hilltop town of Erice, a world apart from the golden coastline: Norman cobbled alleyways, ancient churches and sensational views transport you back in time through the incredible history of one of Sicily's oldest settlements. Trapani is the primary port for ferry connections to the Egadi Islands, a trio of unspoilt gems which are enjoying a surge of international interest since Christopher Nolan chose Favignana as a key filming location for his 2026 blockbuster The Odyssey. Trapani-Birgi airport is just over an hour away, as is Palermo’s recently expanded Falcone-Borsellino.
